The AGM of the Western Province Cricket Association and its affiliated entities Western Province Professional Cricket (Pty) Ltd and Western Cape Cricket (Pty) Ltd took place in the last week of July. This edition of our regular newsletter covers some of the reports at the AGM that looked back on a successful season.

From the desk of the CHIEF EXECUTIVE

The 2008/9 season was a very successful one for Western Province and Western Cape cricket from a playing and general perspective. The Nashua Cape Cobras won what has become the most sought after trophy in South African cricket - the Standard Bank Pro20 competition - to book for themselves a place at the inaugural Champions League tournament comprising the top 12 domestic teams in the world, due to be held in India in October 2009.

J.P. Duminy enters cricket legend in Melbourne

The Western Cape has produced some forty cricketers for South Africa since unity and each generation our region seems to produce a new gem. The latest one is JP Duminy who catapulted to super stardom in a season that has been rated perhaps the most successful ever for South African cricket. read more

Western Province Professional Cricket (Pty) Ltd, one of the subsidiary companies of the WPCA, is a 66 percent shareholder in Western Cape Cricket (Pty) Ltd which is responsible for the operations of the Nashua Cape Cobras team.

NEWS:
Cape Cobras Squad for Champions League Announced

In mid August, the Convenor of Selectors for the Cape Cobras, Omar Henry, today announced the initial squad of 20 players to represent the Cape Cobras at the first ever Champions League tournament due to be held in India from 8 to 23 October. read more

Partnership with the Rajasthan Royals

There was cricket before 20/20 and there is cricket post-20/20! Following the announcement that the 2009 Indian Premier League would be relocated to South Africa, the WPCA as owner of Sahara Park Newlands, Western Cape Cricket (Pty) Ltd as owner of the Nashua Cape Cobras (the reigning South African Standard Bank Pro 20 Champions) and the Rajasthan Royals (inaugural 2008 Indian Premier League Champions) took the initiative to enter into a strategic partnership which was something small but new in the rapidly changing world of cricket. read more

Western Province Club Awards

The Western Province Cricket Association held their annual Club Awards Evening on 9 May at the Western Province Cricket Club, Sahara Park Newlands. After guests were treated to an enjoyable three-course dinner, a handover of trophies and medals celebrated all individual, player and Cricket Club achievements for the 2008/09 season. read more

 

Did you know...

Those of us watching the recent ICC World T20 tournament would have seen the breathtaking catch of the fortnight by the Scottish player, Kyle Coetzer, or the courageous way the orange-shirted Ryan Ten Doeschate help Holland to a shock victory over England at Lords. Then, of course, there was JP Duminy battling valiantly but unsuccessfully to reach the target set by Pakistan in the semi-final at Trent Bridge.

Season Home Fixtures and Ticket Prices

Western Province Cricket Association has announced that season tickets for the upcoming 2009/10 season will go on sale on 2 September 2009. These can be purchased from the Campground Road ticket office at Sahara Park Newlands. The prices include the MTN One Day International match: Proteas vs England on Friday 27th November, as well as the Castle Test Match: Proteas vs England from Sunday 3 -7 January 2010.

Grass (including semi finals and finals) R775.00
Grass (excluding semi finals and finals) R640.00
Scholars Grass Prices R250.00
